Unearthed 2019 Posts Tie Abdul El-Sayed to Detroit DSA as He Claims Capitalist Label

Summary
2019 Detroit DSA posts newly spotlighted this week hailed Abdul El-Sayed as a "comrade" and "friend and ally," undercutting his recent insistence that he is a capitalist, not a socialist.
The contrast matters because El-Sayed has been publicly defending market-based views while backing Medicare for All, higher taxes on top earners and tougher penalties for companies he says abuse natural resources.
Six DSA chapter events between 2017 and 2020, including a 2019 fundraiser where he was keynote speaker, add to evidence of longstanding ties; DSA organizers also told Politico in July they were mobilizing to help him win his primary.
Those links stop short of full ideological alignment: the national DSA platform backs steps such as abolishing the Senate, public ownership of major corporations and defunding the Pentagon, positions El-Sayed has not endorsed.
El-Sayed's campaign did not immediately comment, and the Michigan Democratic Senate nominee now heads into a Nov. 3 race against Republican Mike Rogers.
