NFL Week 6 Rolls Out 7 Early Sunday Games After Broncos' OT Win

Q: How did Denver secure an overtime victory despite their offense managing just 30 second-half yards?

Denver won because its defense and special teams compensated for an offense that disappeared after halftime. After building a 14-3 lead on two long first-half touchdown drives, the Broncos managed only two first downs and 30 yards in the second half, but they kept Seattle from taking full advantage. The decisive play came in overtime, when cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian intercepted Sam Darnold and gave Denver a short field. Four plays later, Wil Lutz drilled a 53-yard field goal for the 17-14 win. Denver’s defense controlled much of the night even without Pat Surtain II and Talanoa Hufanga. The Broncos sacked Darnold five times, hit him 17 times, forced three turnovers and repeatedly stalled Seattle drives. They also got a key forced fumble from Nik Bonitto in the first half and a late interception by Kris Abrams-Draine in regulation. Seattle helped Denver by failing to protect Darnold and by turning the ball over at critical moments. Darnold threw two interceptions, including one with a chance to take the lead late in regulation and the game-ending one in overtime. Although Seattle rallied with 11 fourth-quarter points to force extra time, Denver’s defense held firm long enough for Lutz to finish it. So, despite almost no second-half offense, Denver secured the victory by pairing an early cushion with relentless defense, timely takeaways and a clutch overtime kick.

Q: Did muddy London turf overshadow Travis Hunter making NFL history with an interception and a touchdown?

No. The muddy Wembley surface became a major talking point, but it did not erase Travis Hunter’s historic performance. The field clearly affected the game. Early rain left the grass slick and muddy, players slipped repeatedly, Houston’s Nico Collins changed to longer cleats, and umpire Larry Smith was carted off after falling on the wet turf. Fans and commentators openly criticized the conditions, and the surface was prominent in postgame coverage. But Hunter still emerged as one of the day’s defining stories. In Jacksonville’s 34-31 loss to Houston, he caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence and later intercepted C.J. Stroud in the end zone. That made him one of only a handful of Super Bowl-era players to record both a receiving touchdown and an interception in the same game, and one of the very few to do it in the regular season. He finished with four catches for 59 yards, plus three tackles and the interception. The game itself gave room for both narratives. Hunter’s touchdown and interception nearly helped Jacksonville complete a comeback, while the sloppy field conditions influenced footing, officiating, and strategy throughout. Houston still won on Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 49-yard field goal at the buzzer. So the turf shared the spotlight, especially because of safety concerns, but Hunter’s two-way milestone remained one of the most significant and memorable developments from the London game.
