Tom's Guide Recommends 7 iPhone Duo Accessories for $1,999 Foldable as Preorders Stretch Into Next Year

Q: Can a simple MagSafe adapter really transform Apple's first dual-screen phone into a full desktop replacement?

Not by itself. A MagSafe adapter like Satechi’s OntheGo can make the iPhone Duo far more laptop-like, but it does not, on current evidence, make it a full desktop replacement for most users. The case for it is real. Reviewers highlight the adapter because it adds HDMI, USB-A, SD and microSD, USB-C pass-through charging, and Ethernet. Paired with the Duo’s 7.6-inch inner display, multitasking-focused iOS 27, A20 Pro chip, and confirmed external display support over USB-C/HDMI-style connections, that setup could handle light office work, presentations, file transfers, video monitoring, and travel productivity surprisingly well. In that sense, the adapter turns the phone into a compact workstation. But “desktop replacement” depends on software, not just ports. Apple has not shown a Samsung DeX-style desktop interface for iPhone Duo. External display support appears geared more toward mirroring, video output, and specific pro workflows than a full windowed desktop environment. iOS multitasking is improved for the foldable, yet it still is not macOS. That limits complex file management, pro app flexibility, and multiwindow workflows expected from a desktop. The practical verdict is that a simple MagSafe adapter can extend the iPhone Duo into a capable mobile hub, especially for users working with cloud apps, media, and presentations. For full-time desktop-class computing, it is more an accessory-driven workaround than a true replacement.
