Summary
Spring 2027 is Meta’s target for new VR glasses priced at $1,299.99, a lightweight device aimed at watching movies, live events and replacing computer monitors rather than gaming.
At 100g, the glasses are one-fifth the weight of the Quest 3, with a 300g external “puck” handling computing and battery power for about three hours of high-resolution playback.
Meta is betting design, lower price and content breadth can revive VR demand: the glasses run Horizon OS and launch with partners including Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, ESPN and Imax.
That push comes after VR sales plateaued and Apple’s £3,495 Vision Pro stumbled, while Meta has already sold 20 million VR headsets and built an audience through Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses.
Omdia said the smart-glasses market grew 322% in 2025, with Meta holding 85%, giving the company a larger wearables base as it tries to make VR more mainstream.
