UFC Awards 8 Bonuses at UFC 333 as Yan-Volkanovski Card Delivers $750,000

Q: How did Aaron Pico's late-notice replacement fundamentally alter the dynamics of the UFC 333 main card and bonus distribution?

Aaron Pico’s late-notice opponent change altered UFC 333 by turning what had been booked as a higher-profile, rankings-relevant featherweight matchup with Arnold Allen into a more volatile showcase fight against Losene Keita — and Pico capitalized immediately. Allen’s withdrawal, tied to recovery from prior treatments, removed an established contender from the main card and brought in Keita on roughly a month’s notice. That changed the stylistic and promotional dynamics. Against Allen, Pico likely faced a more measured, name-value test. Against Keita, a dangerous but less proven UFC opponent, the bout became a faster-paced, higher-risk striking matchup with stronger finish potential. That mattered directly to the bonus picture. Pico opened the main card with a 74-second first-round TKO, one of the night’s quickest and most emphatic stoppages. Instead of being part of a drawn-out contender fight, he became one of five fighters to claim a $25,000 Finish Bonus. His stoppage also helped establish the tone of a card that leaned heavily toward early finishes outside the title fights. The switch did not affect the top bonus winners — Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili still took Fight of the Night, while Alexander Volkanovski and Lone’er Kavanagh earned $100,000 Performance bonuses. But Pico’s replacement opponent clearly reshaped the lower-tier bonus distribution by creating one of the standout finishes that filled the $25,000 pool and gave the main card an explosive start.
