Dec. 21, 2026, at 00:00 UTC is when Samsung News will go offline, and the Samsung News widget will stop receiving fresh content.
Samsung said it will delete personal information collected through the service after the shutdown, though some data may be retained temporarily to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
April 2023 was when Samsung News replaced Samsung Free, and Samsung had still added a short-form video carousel this year before deciding to discontinue the product.
Samsung gave no reason for the closure, but the app appeared to face stiff competition from Google News and Google Discover on Android, disappointing users who liked features such as sports alerts and daily trivia.
