Summary
Spanish authorities late Sunday confirmed 10 more foreign victims from last week’s Urda collision, including four Americans and one each from Canada, Japan, Argentina, Mexico, Tunisia and the Czech Republic.
Only three victims remain unidentified, with 66 of the 69 dead now named after forensic teams worked through remains that in some cases had to be identified from individual body parts.
Three missing-person reports are still active — for two Australians and one Japanese citizen — and officials said some families want to travel to Spain for in-person identification.
The crash happened when a Renfe train was cleared to continue after an automatic safety-system failure while an Iryo train was still stationary on the track, renewing scrutiny of Spain’s rail safety after another fatal high-speed crash in January.
