Amazon Cuts 256GB MacBook Neo to $669.22 as Rare $30 Deal Hits 3 Colors

Q: Is Amazon's rare MacBook Neo discount actually a bargain, or just a clever illusion masking Apple's recent summer price hikes?

It is a real, if modest, bargain — but only in a narrow sense. Amazon’s $669.22 price is genuinely below Apple’s current $699 list price and appears to be the lowest widely available new price since Apple raised MacBook Neo pricing over the summer. For buyers who want a brand-new Neo right now and do not qualify for Apple’s education pricing, that roughly $30 discount is meaningful because discounts on this model have been rare. But it is also true that the deal looks better because Apple previously raised the base Neo from $599 to $699. Measured against that original launch price, shoppers are still paying about $70 more than they would have before the hike. In that sense, the sale does not fully undo Apple’s pricing move and can fairly be seen as only a partial rollback, not a dramatic bargain. Value also depends on which Neo you are considering. The sale mainly applies to the 256GB base model, which is the most compromised version: 8GB of non-upgradeable memory, no Touch ID, no keyboard backlight, and an A18 Pro chip that is fine for schoolwork, browsing, streaming, and light editing but weaker than Apple’s M-series laptops for heavier tasks. The 512GB model, which adds Touch ID and is often viewed as the more complete option, has not seen the same level of discount. So the discount is real, not fake — but its appeal is strongest only for budget-conscious buyers who already wanted the base MacBook Neo and understand its limits.

Q: With Black Friday looming, should you grab this stripped-down MacBook Neo now or hold out for a deal on the 512GB model?

If you need a laptop now for school, web work, streaming, or basic productivity, the $669.22 MacBook Neo is a reasonable buy. If you expect to keep it for years or store lots of files locally, it is smarter to wait for a 512GB deal. The current Amazon price is notable because it is the lowest seen since Apple’s summer price hike, and discounts on the Neo have been rare. But the base model is also the most compromised version: 256GB can fill quickly, the memory is fixed at 8GB, and this configuration lacks Touch ID and keyboard backlighting. Those are not small trade-offs on a machine meant to be a budget long-term purchase. The 512GB model is widely seen as the more complete option because it adds both more practical storage and Touch ID. Current listings suggest that model still sits around full price, roughly $789.99 new on Amazon, with no broad Black Friday markdown yet. Historically, though, Apple and retailers have offered better value through refurbished stock: Apple’s certified refurbished 512GB Neo has recently sold for about $679, which is only slightly above today’s discounted 256GB price and includes the same warranty. So the decision comes down to urgency. Buy the 256GB Neo now only if your needs are light and immediate. Hold out if you want the better-configured machine, because Black Friday is close, pricing is already moving early, and the jump to 512GB is likely the more future-proof purchase.
