Xbox Players Can Unlock GTA 6 Up to 18 Hours Early via New Zealand Region Switch

Q: With preloads starting in two days, will Microsoft block the famous New Zealand loophole before GTA 6 officially launches?

There is no sign yet that Microsoft will block the New Zealand loophole before GTA 6 launches, but there is also no guarantee it will stay open. The best evidence points the other way: Rockstar’s release timing appears to be a midnight-local rollout rather than a single simultaneous global unlock, and Xbox region changes have historically worked with that kind of launch. Current reporting says Xbox players can still switch their console location to New Zealand and potentially unlock the game when it goes live there, roughly 18 hours before U.S. Eastern time. Preloading starting Nov. 10 does not affect that either way; it only gets the files onto the console early. What is missing is any public indication from Microsoft that it plans a specific crackdown for GTA 6. The company has not announced a policy change tied to this release, and none of the available launch details suggest the loophole has already been disabled. At the same time, Microsoft could still shut it down at any point before Nov. 19 by tying access more tightly to account, store, or purchase region rather than console location. So the practical answer is that, as of now, the loophole still looks viable on Xbox and is widely expected to work unless Microsoft intervenes. Players should treat it as a likely option, not a certainty. Preloading on Nov. 10 is still worthwhile, because if the workaround remains available, a preinstalled copy would be ready the moment the New Zealand unlock hits.
