Türkiye Construction Jobs Hit Record 1.93 Million as Urban Renewal Accelerates

Türkiye’s construction sector employed 1.93 million salaried workers in May, up 1.2% from a year earlier and the highest level ever recorded for the month.
22,576 jobs were added as urban renewal projects sped up, alongside strong housing sales and reconstruction in earthquake-hit regions, industry representatives and an academic said.
Istanbul alone had more than 276,000 housing units under urban renewal across its 39 districts as of July, underscoring the scale of redevelopment driving demand.
civil engineering led construction hiring growth with a 4% rise, while building construction increased 1% and specialized activities edged up 0.1%, pointing to uneven momentum across subsectors.
Across the wider economy, salaried employment in industry, construction and trade-services rose 0.5% to 15.97 million, though tight financing and slow new housing supply still constrain faster job growth.
