Summary
Aug. 3 marked the official start of construction for South Korea’s National AI Computing Center at Solaseado Data Center Park in Haenam, a flagship project to expand AI research and service infrastructure.
CoreAIC, the public-private operator set up in June, said power and water preparations are already underway, with electricity applications filed to KEPCO and water pipeline work in progress.
2028 is the target for full completion, while part of the center’s computing capacity will be offered next year through Samsung SDS data centers to meet urgent demand from industry, academia and researchers.
Samsung SDS led the only bidding consortium and was chosen after technical, policy and financial reviews; partners include Naver Cloud, Samsung C&T, Kakao, Samsung Electronics and KT.
MSIT said it will coordinate with the Financial Services Commission and other agencies on early-operation support, including demand creation and funding measures.
