Life without parole was imposed on Benjamin Garlick, 35, after a Rutherford County jury convicted him of seven counts of aggravated rape of a child and other sex-crime charges.
A two-week trial capped an investigation opened in August 2023 into abuse of a 5-year-old that police said lasted several years and later expanded to identify two additional victims.
Shaantal Garlick, 32, was convicted of two counts of facilitation of aggravated rape of a child and two counts of aggravated child neglect; she was taken into custody after the verdict.
Nov. 10 is the next key date, when Benjamin Garlick faces sentencing on his remaining convictions and Shaantal Garlick is due to be sentenced.
Police said the couple had traveled nationwide through a ministry serving the Hispanic community, and investigators had publicly urged possible victims to come forward as the case widened.
