Margate police found Kenya Glasgow and her 2-year-old daughter on a sidewalk around 2:30 p.m. Sunday after a 911 call reporting a possible lightning strike.
CPR began immediately, but the 31-year-old mother died after transport to North Broward Medical Center and the child died after transport to Broward Health Medical Center under police escort.
Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue handled the emergency response, and police said the deaths remain under investigation.
The strike adds to a deadly 2026 toll: the National Lightning Safety Council has reported 12 lightning deaths this year.
