Angie Nixon, Florida’s Democratic Senate candidate, said Trump’s Venezuela oil agreement amounts to “the epitome” of communism and tied Republican Sen. Ashley Moody to the deal.
The attack followed Trump’s Friday announcement of a U.S. arrangement involving Venezuela’s more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves.
Nixon made the argument while courting Florida voters wary of socialism, especially Venezuelan and Cuban immigrants, even as she stressed her record on affordability.
Her comments also land as Republicans intensify scrutiny of her Democratic Socialists of America ties; Nixon says she joined over housing and healthcare, not broader socialist policies.
