Several leaks, including claims from Ice Universe and supply-chain chatter tied to Apple supplier files, suggest Apple could keep the variable-aperture system exclusive to the Pro Max. The main reason cited is internal space. A mechanical aperture adds moving parts and may require a larger sensor or thicker camera module, which are easier to accommodate in the biggest phone. That would fit Apple’s recent pattern of giving its largest premium iPhone a camera advantage. Apple previously reserved the tetraprism telephoto system for the bigger Pro Max before expanding it more broadly. Rumors this year also suggest the 18 Pro Max may get a stronger telephoto setup and a much larger battery, widening the gap again. Still, there is conflicting reporting. Some outlets and analysts continue to say both Pro models are expected to get variable aperture on the main camera. Until Apple announces the phones on September 9, the feature should be treated as likely for the Pro Max and possible, but not certain, for the smaller Pro.
