Ukraine Drones Hit Arctic Gas Hub 3,300 Km Away as Trump Pushes New Peace Talks

Novy Urengoy, deep in Russia’s Arctic north, was hit by Ukrainian drones that sparked a fire at an industrial site in the country’s main gas-producing region; officials reported no casualties and were still assessing damage.
Fire Point appeared to claim the strike, saying it covered more than 3,300 km, while Russian officials said air defenses repelled the attack and falling debris caused the blaze.
The city sits in Yamalo-Nenets, which produces about 80% of Russia’s natural gas, making the attack one of Ukraine’s deepest and most strategically sensitive strikes inside Russia since 2022.
The strike came as Trump said after speaking with Putin that Moscow may be ready to make a deal, though a weekend push by envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner produced no breakthrough.
Long-range attacks kept escalating on both sides: Ukraine also targeted Novorossiysk, where Russia said four people were killed, while Russian strikes on Kyiv and the Moldova border crossing killed three civilians on Wednesday.
