Its louder speaker is a real advantage in the situations where trackers are used most: finding something nearby but out of sight. In ZDNET’s blind listening tests, Roam was easier to hear than the AirTag, which matters if your keys are under a couch, in a backpack, or buried in luggage. The built-in elastic strap and key loop also remove a common AirTag hassle: Apple’s disc-shaped tag usually needs a separate holder or accessory to attach securely. Roam also adds useful recovery features. Its laser-engraved QR code lets someone who finds the item contact the owner, even without opening a separate tracking app. It has a replaceable CR2032 battery rated for about a year, no subscription fee, and IP67 water and dust resistance, making it well suited for keys, bags, bikes, and travel gear. The trade-off is that AirTag still performs a bit better on range and, for iPhone users, remains stronger overall because Apple’s Find My network is more mature and AirTag offers Precision Finding. But if your priority is value, loudness, ruggedness, and easier attachment rather than Apple’s premium edge, Roam makes a strong case for replacing a more expensive AirTag.
