Pokémon GO Reschedules Boston City Safari, Closes Ticket Sales Over Severe Storm

Q: With a severe nor'easter threatening Boston, how will Niantic compensate players who already booked travel for the postponed City Safari?

Niantic has not said it will reimburse travel costs, and there is no confirmed compensation yet for players who already booked flights or hotels for City Safari Boston. What Niantic has publicly confirmed is limited: the event is being rescheduled because of the severe nor’easter threat, ticket sales have been closed, and details on the new date and options for current ticket holders will be announced “as soon as possible.” So far, the company has only committed to outlining ticket-holder options, not covering outside expenses such as airfare, lodging, or other travel arrangements. That uncertainty matters because the original event materials said City Safari tickets and add-ons were generally nonrefundable, subject to applicable law and Niantic’s terms. The postponement could lead Niantic to offer exceptions, such as honoring tickets for the new date, refunds, or other in-game make-goods, but none of that has been formally announced. For players who already made travel plans, the practical next step is to watch Niantic’s official Pokémon GO blog, in-app announcements, and event pages for the reschedule policy. In the meantime, travelers should check airlines, hotels, and credit-card travel protections for weather-related flexibility, since those providers—not Niantic—are more likely to determine whether out-of-pocket travel costs can be recovered.
