Jurors on Monday watched more of Caleb Flynn’s recorded police interview as his Ohio murder trial entered a second week, with prosecutors nearing the end of their case in Ashley Flynn’s Feb. 16 killing.
In the video, Flynn said a strange man came to the family’s porch the day before the shooting, pitched an American flag and said he would return later; prosecutors say Flynn staged the scene as a break-in.
Flynn also told investigators he was sleeping, woke to his dog’s scratching, checked on his daughters, then heard back-to-back gunshots and found Ashley shot in the bedroom after freezing for four to six seconds.
That account followed two days of testimony from former mistress Alleigha Botner, who read messages in which Flynn allegedly discussed killing his wife, though defense lawyers stressed the affair included more than 107,000 messages and Botner said she thought he meant divorce.
Prosecutors still have more witnesses to call and may seek audio-only testimony from the couple’s 10- and 12-year-old daughters, while the case remains circumstantial with no murder weapon, no eyewitness and no gunshot residue on Flynn.
