Apple Posts iOS 27.2 RC Build 24B115 as Public Release Nears Next Week

Q: Despite new messaging upgrades, is a lingering Face ID glitch enough reason to skip the iOS 27.2 update entirely?

No. A lingering Face ID report alone is not enough reason for most people to skip iOS 27.2 entirely, but it is a good reason to avoid installing the release candidate early and to wait for Apple’s public release notes. The reported Face ID problem appears limited and unconfirmed. It comes from scattered forum posts about attention-aware Face ID behavior on some devices, not from Apple or from broad evidence of a widespread bug. One report also suggested similar behavior existed on iOS 27.0.1, which weakens the case that iOS 27.2 newly introduced it. That matters because isolated beta reports often disappear by final release, or turn out to affect only specific hardware or settings. For most users, the practical choice is to wait a few days for the public rollout, back up the phone, then review Apple’s official notes for bug fixes and security details. The RC is still test software, and there is little upside in taking pre-release risk on a primary or work device just to get features like Messages Suggested Actions, TV profiles, Podcasts queue changes, or Home smart-lock automations slightly earlier. Skipping iOS 27.2 altogether would make more sense only if Face ID reliability is mission-critical for your work or security routine and early public reports show the issue persists after release. Otherwise, the smarter move is not to avoid the update forever, but to delay installation until Apple confirms what is included and whether any Face ID fix or known issue is documented.

Build 24B115 is now available to developers as Apple’s iOS 27.2 release candidate, the near-final version that could ship publicly unchanged if no new issues emerge.
iOS 27.2 centers on app updates, including the return of Messages Suggested Actions, group FaceTime Dual Capture, new Home smart-lock automations, a reorganized Podcasts queue and Apple Music’s black-and-white icon.
Apple has not published an exact release date, full change log or security notes, and 9to5Mac expects the public rollout next week.
Forum reports around the RC remain scattered: one user said attention-aware Face ID unlocked an iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPad Pro M4 without eye contact, while another said Safari tab reloading appears improved.
The RC is aimed at existing testers rather than most primary-device users, and Apple’s redesigned Health app—seen in early 27.2 betas—was removed before this build.
