Summary
Sunrise on the Reaping will stream on Meta VR Glasses in 3D after its Nov. 20 theatrical release, marking Meta’s first movie conversion deal with a Hollywood studio.
DNEG handled the 3D conversion for the Francis Lawrence-directed prequel, which Lionsgate expects to open at $60 million to $70 million in North America over Thanksgiving.
Meta said more Lionsgate films for the headset platform will be announced later, extending the partnership beyond a single title.
The spring 2027 glasses feature a 5K Infinite Display, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos spatial audio and Imax Enhanced as Meta pushes premium entertainment on the 100-gram device.
The deal links Meta with a studio already active in AI and franchise expansion: Lionsgate has worked with Runway, and the five Hunger Games films have grossed more than $3.3 billion worldwide.
