Summary
Missouri officers arrested Jacob Morley without incident Tuesday after the escaped Tennessee inmate spent part of his 9-day flight hiding in a hunters' shed near Marion, Illinois.
FLOCK cameras helped track Morley after Tennessee investigators warned Nov. 3 that he might be heading west on Interstate 70; Missouri officers then followed the suspect vehicle to Liberty.
Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich said evidence showed Morley drank beer, made garlic bread, wrote an apology letter and took clothes, a truck and 3 firearms from the farm property.
Video from Northwest Correctional Complex showed the 28-year-old convicted murderer moving through the prison and breaching a fence, prompting former warden Cameron Lindsay to question staff failures.
Morley was serving a life sentence for the 2022 murder of Cody Birchfield, and officials still do not know how he reached Marion—about 127 miles from the prison after stealing a pickup nearby.
